too bad, so sad
woe is me. we have no internet connection at home. something's wrong with our wireless network, and we are too ignorant to understand what the problem is or to have a clue as to how to fix it. if anyone has any suggestions of what to check, i'd be grateful. otherwise, i'll be offline until tuesday, as i am taking friday off to spend with my mom and will be home through the holiday weekend.
can one get the DTs from computer withdrawl?

try plugging with an ethernet wire right into your modem. if that works, then you know your modem is fine. then try plugging with a cord into your wireless router. (i'm assuming this is possible-- it is with linksys.) if that works, then you know the router is okay but either it's not broadcasting the wireless or the wireless card (internal or external) on your computer is broken.
the tech support guy for our isp tested the signal, and says that the signal is strong. which is true, i'm picking up the signal, but have limited or no connectivity.
laura, you should have the cord somewhere - last we used it was probably seattle, but i know it's somewhere, so worst case scenario, you could sit in the library and type away, attached to a chord.
I???? should have a cord? if it was used in seattle, that would be a cord in YOUR green bag.
Justin -- this happened to us (strong signal, limited connectivity) and it turned out that we'd been hacked and someone had changed our settings and basically stole our connection. There's a way to check the server logs to see if your IP address was changed. Have you tried resetting the modem? (it requires a paperclip) If you tell your ISP that you suspect this has happened, they should be able to walk you through a solution. Good luck! Being unwired is no fun...
My word. These two rusty cans and frayed string of mine are starting to seem a little drab...
