milo goes material
the crib is in the...crib. we got it home, justin's dad put it together - with no swearing! - and it's in milo's room, ready to go. it's basic but beautiful - maybe because it's milo's. we made a beeline for the basic model, and justin's dad tried to get us to look around and consider others, but we said no. this is a one-baby crib. we're not going for family heirloom furniture. the truth is, if we got anything in the world we wanted, it would be one of several modern design cribs in the four-figure range - and we're not asking my father-in-law to drop a grand on a crib. if we're not going that route, anything fancy is wasted on us. so we got the crib loaded in the family wagon - and the mattress! and the tub! and assorted other little goodies! - and brought it all home.
the crib is the one big thing that won't be a hand-me-down from milo's brother. i'm kind of glad we didn't get around to getting one for hans. it will be nice to put milo in it and not have any previously-imagined pictures of hans in it floating around in our heads. it will be only his.
following are a few peeks at milo's stuff, including the cowboy outfit alysse sent him and deadbabymama's penguin cup (with ski cap on and off, and with a paper towel stuffed inside, so you can imagine it filled with milk):

hey that looks like gatito's crib! but we didn't have anything nearly as cool looking as the elephant or frog clock!
I love that last picture there. The frog clock is quite cute and it's cool that you're putting a Descendants album cover in his room.
Hopefully, you've got the album, Two Things at Once, so he'll be able to hear classics like "Weinerschnitzel" and "Hope" when he's old enough.
Anyway, I've still been lurking here and I wish you well for these last few weeks.
What a beautiful, simple, and expressive baby's room.
I wish you would, like, register on line.
The penguin cup is SO COOL.
Weinerschnitzel? Is that "Welcome to der Weinerschnitzel, can I take your order please?" Because I have been trying for like the last 10 years to remember who did that.
p.s., if Milo is active, I recommend a bumper.
Because I shudder to think about the appendages of Mimi's we would have had to amputate to save the crib if we didn't have the bumper to protect her.
And I think you have a feel for this. I remember being 36-37 weeks in a meeting and having someone totally distracted by my belly moving from side to side as Mimi hula'd in there.
oh.my.god. The penguin absolutly cracks me up. I seriously have Diet Dr. Pepper spouting out of my nose from laughing. Hilarious!
Looks good. And no swearing. Hallelujah!
Yes, sweetcoalminer.
"You want Bill sperm with that?"
No!
"bill sperm"??? wtf are you talkin'bout, willis?
If you'd been to the Weinerschnitzel drive-thru, you'd know, Silly Girl.
That's the same crib we have. I love that it's so versatile. Julian's bedding set was modern (stripes and polka dots), but Natalie's is more traditional and girly, and the crib looks great with both styles. It's safe, a Consumer Reports Best Buy, and you gotta love the price!
Yeah, we love the penguin too!
We threaded fleece blankets through the crib bars after O got his legs through them and scared himself and me; he screamed so loud my mum thought I'd dropped him!
The room looks lovely.
