and we're off

if i ever finish folding all the laundry done by the best husband in the world, we might get to bed and not oversleep and actually make it to newark and on the flight to tokyo. we'll be back on tuesday, but things will be hectic, so there may not be much updating here, but in the mean time, tune into our finally-formed travel blog for trip updates.

xoxo

We're here, some 25 travel hours later. Had posh seats, so can't complain about that, but wow it was loooong. Laura's up in our room, a very Japanese Ryokan (just large enough for us to roll our futon over the matted floor each night as we are ready for rest) listening in on some idiosyncratic Japanese game show, or something else kinky.

Nothing too strange has happened yet - though the machine that dispenses subway tokens ate my 1000 yen bill, which disappointment me, but once it started beeping at me, a nice fella came out from behind that machine and helped us out. Who knew that the robots had humans working with them? Then there was the guy who insisted on walking us a good ten blocks out of his way, after noticing that we'd been checking out a map (looking for non-existant streets or addresses) and unlike someone in Peru or Egypt (baksheesh anybody?) he seemed satisfied with a "good night, hello, good night" as the reward for his good deed. Good times.

I'm not yet tired, and an old pal of mine is rolling into town in a few minutes, so i am going to meet him at the subway and we'll go and tickle our livers for a spell.

Then, when we're good and liquored, we'll have to find a vending maching that sells "roose socks", if not "slightly used underpants".... hey, gotta see if all the internet lore is true.
