and now, a public service announcement

i was really excited about this article on pomegranate juice helping to reduce birth defects, although my excitement was slightly dampened when i read at the bottom that the price-gauging people at pom sponsored the study. i've been trying to stick it to the pom people by buying no-label pomegranate juice at trader joe's, but i haven't made it out to suburban hell in a couple of weeks to get it.

I can never get excited about a study conducted on non-human animals.

So, according to that article, grapes should do the trick too?

Hey, thought of you tonight - I was in a different grocery store than usual and saw plain pomegranate juice for sale by a brand OTHER than Pom! It was by Knudsen and it was called 'Just Pomegranate.' You can find their website here and find out a place you can buy it that's maybe closer to where you live than Trader Joe's. I found it in a regular grocery, not a health food or specialty foods store.

The downside? It cost close to $7 a bottle.

thanks - i will look for knudsen's here. pom's single-serving bottles are either 3.99 or 2.99, depending on whether i'm true to my neighborhood store or go out to the giant suburban stores - for that price, i should be getting a full-on cocktail! the full-sized bottle of pom's is 7.99, but trader joe's full-sized bottle is 4.99 - much better than pom or knudsen, but i don't make it out to trader joe's often, because it's in the burbs and not my beloved city and i try to keep my $$$ here, and because it's so far away that i feel guilty about the gas used, so i try to go there when i already have to go the burbs for something else, like to see my in-laws.

i am one compromised monkey.

stop it. they're a pretty responsible company, and they have many, many wonderful vegetarian things there that make YOUR life easier, and they save YOU money. that they're in obnoxious suburbs is not really their fault, per se. they ARE a business, after all; they have to go where the demand is. when you think about it, it's kind of OUR fault (our = clevelanders') for not demanding this kind of store IN our city.

plus, as we've discussed REPEATEDLY, the ONE time you went through the store was the very busiest hour of the week.

so knock it off.

Um, Randall dragged me there as well - and it was still hell.

It's so fake.
