a rock 'n roll kinda day

after staying out late and sleeping until noon, we walked up to the market and sat in the square and ate our falafels, walked home and hung out a while, then went to the rock and roll hall of fame, which was not too bad, but was too clean for rock and roll. we discussed over puerto rican food that what the hall needed was to be dirtied up - some cigarette butts and beer rubbed into the carpet, bathrooms with no doors on the stalls and graffiti on the walls, smoky haze in the air.

and throughout the day, we talked about our children, past (strummer and hans), present (their bun in the oven) and future. and talking about all these things makes the future seem...possible. it gives me hope.

we celebrated our hope by buying a sippy cup from the gift shop for strummer's brother or sister. it says "kids rock". and they do.

The House of Blues sucks arse!!! Wilco played Cleveland days after our boy died, and I couldn't get into the show with out shelling out $400 on ebay, something that I wasn't in a position to do.

My coworker who went to the gig tells me that they played for 2 plus hours, solid ... so now I'm really bummed.

Wilco will be featured on the next Burn to Shine dvd (http://www.trixiedvd.com/), which is a really cool project where local bands and artists take over an abandoned, about to be torn down home, in their city, and tell it's story before it burns to the ground.

Volume 1 is in DC, which psychs me beyond anything anyone can imagine (the only city that I can think that I might be more, music wise, into is Amsterdam but DC is where it's at in US - the curator is Brendan from Fugazi and will feature Bob Mould, The Evens, Ted Leo, Q and not U, and more!!! Can you tell I'm excited?

I just ordered it.

Volume II will be in chicago: wilco, Shellac, Tortoise, Pit er Pat and Freakwater.

MMJ is from Louisville! I actually know a guy who had them play at his wedding some years back.

lorem - how long have you been in Louisville? The early-mid 90's were an awesome time for Louisville music. I used to cruise down from time to time to see bands and friends back then. Good stuff.
